Our London 2012 Story

Our London 2012 Story

Our Olympic Gold Medal Moment

A dazzling celebration of UK Olympic sporting success saw 700 athletes, associations, coaches, the Prime Minister and celebrities such as Richard Branson and Patrick Stewart attend a glittering drinks reception at Lords Cricket Ground, London. This showcase was a platform to inspire sporting talent, endorse support and publicise London’s bid for the games in 2012.

Comshows managed all elements of the drinks reception/awards ceremony for athletes/paralympians from start to finish, liaising with a vast range of supporting organisations including London 2012, British Olympic Association, British Paralympic Association, BBC, Metropolitan Police and other high profile sponsors. We managed the invitation process, creative, technical, catering, speaker liaison, exhibition management and live video link-up.

To ensure a fast paced presentation to a captive audience, Sue Barker facilitated the presentation, including live interviewing of athletes, in the style of gameshow Question of Sport.

We produced an edited highlights video for the opening from the BBC’s archive footage to ensure momentum and drive for London 2012 campaign continued. This was relayed on plasmas throughout the venue.

The event had particular focus on accessibility therefore access routes within the venue, custom made ramps throughout plus staging requirements, were all carefully checked to ensure excellentmovement for our entire audience.

The event was held at Lords Cricket Ground at our suggestion, as it was initially proposed as the host for archery in London Olympics 2012 bid and therefore seemed an appropriate venue
